Services

  • Classes

All of my classes are taught on a one-on-one basis in my home studio in Olympia, Washington.  The class descriptions below are basic guidelines...all classes will be geared toward the student's needs and skill levels.  Students who have prior lampworking experience are encouraged to bring a sample of their work with them so I can evaluate their skill level.  Students will be working on a Nortel Minor Bench Burner during the class.

Students get to keep all the beads they make during the classes.  As all beads will be properly annealed, your beads will be cleaned and mailed to you the following day.  Because of the length of time the electroforming process takes, those beads will be mailed 3-4 days after the class.

  • Beginning Lampworking I

This class is for the beginning lampworker...no experience is required.  All aspects of making beads are covered from studio set-up and safety to marketing beads.  Emphasis is placed on making round beads and basic embellishments including stringers and frit.  All materials and equipment are supplied...just bring your lunch and enthusiasm.  6 hour class is $150.
  • Beginning Lampworking II

A continuing study of basic lampworking skills, this class is for students who have mastered the basic round bead.  This class will focus on shapes beyond the round bead...bicones, lentils, tubes, discs, barrels, tabs and more.  More advanced decorating techniques will also be covered including twisties and encasing basics. The viscosity of glass will also be discussed in conjunction with the lace-like effects of Intense Black.  All materials and equipment are supplied...just bring your lunch and enthusiasm.  8 hour class is $200.
  • Metals & Glass

This class is for the intermediate level lampwork artist.  Students should have a basic understanding of lampworking and be confident in their ability to make basic bead shapes.  This class will focus on how to integrate different metals into your beads.  The use of gold, silver and copper leaf and foil, copper mesh and silver and copper wire will all be covered.  Fuming with silver and gold will also be studied with an emphasis on how various metals will change the color of glass.  This class will focus on creating organic-style beads inspired both by nature and the properties of the metals we will be working with.  Although students are encouraged to bring their own eye protection and any of their favorite tools to use, all materials and equipment are supplied...just bring your lunch and enthusiasm.  8 hour class is $250.
  • Electroforming

This class is for everyone...no experience necessary!  There is no flameworking during the class.  Students are required to bring their own beads to electroform, or beads may be purchased from me at the class ($10-40 each).  The entire process of electroforming will be covered including where to purchase equipment and how to set it up.  Students will learn how to incorporate all kinds of natural objects into their electroformed beads as well as learning the secrets of my electroformed rose beads.  Except for the base beads, all equipment and materials are supplied.  Students should bring a minimum of 4-6 beads with them in addition to their lunch and creativity.  6 hour class is $175.
  • Silver Glass Theory and Application

This class is for the intermediate level lampwork artist.  Students should have a basic understanding of lampworking and be confident in their ability to make basic bead shapes.  This class will focus on how to use the high-metal content reactive glasses from Double Helix, Precision, TAG, Reichenbach and others.  Both striking and reducing glass will be used and the differences between these processes will be explained.  Glass chemistry and flame atmospheres will be discussed with an empahsis on the theory of how these amazing glass colors work and how temperature control and flame atmosphere effects the colors they can produce..   Although students are encouraged to bring their own eye protection and any of their favorite tools to use, all materials and equipment are supplied...just bring your lunch and enthusiasm.  8 hour class is $275.
